Wabi Sabi Farm

How Wabi Sabi Farm CSA works

Every week (or bi-weekly for half shares) you will receive a box of USDA Certified Organic FOOD grown locally by us with an emphasis on taste, nutrition and environmental sustainability.  A share will be delivered by the farm (for an additional minor charge) to one of our drop sites.  Members can also choose to pick their share up at the farm and wonder/wander around to see where their food is grown.

Members are encouraged to bring reusable bags to fill with their weekly bounty and leave the box at their respective pick up location.  Each member will be allotted two CSA boxes with their seasonal share. If the boxes aren't returned to us to fill up with the next week's harvest, we will supply extra boxes for a small fee and deliver the share.

Wednesday drop sites located at: The Farm, Johnston (TBD), Des Moines (TBD), Urbandale (TBD) and West Des Moines (TBD).

The 'Early Greens' Share ($115) will be filled with Sugar Snap Pea shoots, lettuce, radishes, sorrel, micro greens, etc.  Most of the produce in this share is Living Food.  Members will receive Pea Shoots, Lettuce, other micro greens, etc. still growing in their container to remain at their peak of freshness.  This share is anticipated to be available the four weeks prior to the start of the 'Regular' Season Share.  This share is first offered to 'Regular' Season members and any other openings will be offered on a first come first serve basis to fill any remaining memberships.  Because of potential of very cold weather and the sensitivity of the Living Food, there may be a week were everyone needs to pick this share up at the farm.

The 'Regular' Season Share ($545 Full Share/ $285 Half Share) will run for 20 weeks, as weather permits, (mid-May to end of September) and will consist of a seasonal harvest every week.  In this share there will be the garden staple crops like lettuce, spinach, green beans, potatoes, garlic, tomatoes, peppers, etc and will also contain some of the more unique vegetables like kohlrabi, heirloom tomatoes, eggplants and more.  Please refer to the produce calendar to see anticipated times of availability for different crops.

The 'October' Share ($125) will run for 4 weeks (weather permitting) in October.  This share consists of cooler season and/or storage crops like Brussels Sprouts, broccoli, cabbage, kohlrabi, leeks, shallots, garlic, greens, radishes, etc.  Like the 'Early Greens' share, this share will first be available to 'Regular' Season members and then will be filled on a first come first serve basis to fill any remaining openings.

An electronic (emailed) weekly newsletter will accompany the share. The newsletter will let members know all the exciting things that happened at Wabi Sabi Farm over the last week, important information about farm events and share changes, storage tips for the weekly harvest, recipes on how to use the share's contents, possibly a few bad vegetable jokes/puns and more!
